Materials, Trash & Recycling Project
Chemical composition is the arrangement, type, and ratio of atoms in molecules of chemicals substance. So depending on the substance the arrangement could be in an orderly fashion compared to a un-orderly fashion, and when breaking, tearing, or melting you tend to break those bonds breaking the composition. For example take a piece of writing paper when you rip it or tear it the bond breaks, and that's what happens when we downcycle or recycle you lower the substance or product quality. We go from strong writing paper to basic printer paper lessing its quality, then goes to cardboard and then finally thin toilet paper. So we went from strong quality writing paper to really thin toilet paper, and over that process the bond weakens which is why it went from strong paper to thin weak paper.
In our world we have the mind set that “well the world is so big and in bad shape, my impact isn't worth it” im sure thats not the exact statement but you catch my drift. It's basically a why bother doing this if nothings gonna change, which sucks for people like us who want the world to look better. And every contribution you make to making our world a better place is so effective it inspires people, how did you think this got started in the first place? A person looked around our world and saw all the bad in our environment and took action, and what did that do ? It inspired millions of people to change their ways of living to help our planet. So how do we impact our communities? DO IT, do the impossible, inspire your or should I say our community to say It might not fix much, but at least I can say I made an impact.
In our project of Downcycling paper, my partner and I learned many things. First of all, we learned that downcycling is a product or “big picture” as my partner likes to call it, of recycling. When we Upcycle we increase its value, but when we downcycle we decrease the value. For example take an unknown substance, when we Upcycle we turn that material into a backpack, upgrading the value. When Downcycling with the substance we turn it into yarn or plastic decreasing its value. And we also figured out that Upcycling is much better than Downcycling due to Upcycling increasing prolong life of the useful substance.
